We are specialists committed to accessible testing and counselling for HIV and other sexually transmitted infections. Our Sexual Health Centre has provided free, anonymous HIV testing for more than 25 years.

The Sexual Health Centre was founded by the Health Without Borders association, continuing the mission of Doctors Without Borders. It has invested in the health of thousands of people in Bulgaria for almost 20 years.

In 2018, the Sexual Health Centre changed its name and became CheckPoint Sofia. Medical centres with similar names exist throughout Europe, providing a place for open dialogue, counselling and support for anyone with questions about their HIV status.

At CheckPoint Sofia, we build on this model by expanding our services to include a range of sexual health tests, procedures and consultations. Test results and prescriptions issued by a doctor can also be accessed through the centre’s online results system.

Anyone concerned about their health is welcome, regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity or age.

CheckPoint Sofia is a safe space where you can discuss intimate aspects of your life without fear of judgement. Discretion and confidentiality are assured.

We also provide psychological and emotional support, as well as additional assistance following a positive HIV, hepatitis or syphilis result.

Services at CheckPoint Sofia are provided by the healthcare establishment “CheckPoint – АИПЗГ Елена Биринджиева” ЕООД (official Bulgarian registered company name), healthcare registration number (UIN): 2203151001.

“CheckPoint – АИПЗГ Елена Биринджиева” ЕООД (official Bulgarian registered company name) sets the prices for the centre’s tests, procedures and consultations.

Our mission

“Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.” (WHO) Our priority is to provide a safe space for sharing, counselling and information. Research worldwide shows that men who have sex with men (MSM) are among the groups most affected by HIV and other sexually transmitted infections. One of our key strengths is our LGBTI-affirming counsellors. We also work with other communities vulnerable to sexually transmitted infections. Our main priority is to provide services and support for everyone, regardless of ethnicity, gender or sexual orientation, tailored to each person’s needs and circumstances.
