Find out which sample is appropriate for you based on your sexual exposure and the body site involved.
Blood
Blood tests are used for HIV, syphilis and hepatitis; the particular test determines whether a finger-prick or venous sample is needed.
A specialist collects the sample at CheckPoint.
You do not need to fast for these blood tests. You can eat and drink normally.
Urine
Urine is used for the offered urine culture with an antibiogram, Security package, SuperCheck, UltraCheck and mycoplasma/ureaplasma tests, depending on the selected test.
A first-morning urine sample is required.
Get a sterile urine container from a pharmacy, collect the sample and bring it to CheckPoint. Also check the sample acceptance schedule for your particular test in the price list.
Throat swab
This is a sample of secretions from the throat collected with a swab. It is used for the throat swab test and applicable SuperCheck, UltraCheck and Extra Security packages, depending on exposure and the selected test.
A specialist collects the swab at CheckPoint.
Do not eat before collection. You may drink water and take your regular medication.
Rectal swab
This is a sample of secretions from the rectum collected with a swab. The Extra Security package tests for gonorrhoea, chlamydia and mycoplasma using a throat or rectal sample. The price list also specifies rectal samples for HPV genotyping and p16 where indicated.
You collect the rectal swab yourself on site at CheckPoint, with instructions from the team.
Do not perform intimate hygiene before collecting the sample.
Vaginal swab
This is a sample of vaginal secretions collected with a swab. It is used for applicable chlamydia, mycoplasma/ureaplasma, HPV and vaginal secretion tests, and the SuperCheck and UltraCheck packages. The selected test determines what is tested.
You collect the vaginal swab yourself on site at CheckPoint, with instructions from the team.
Do not perform intimate hygiene before collecting the sample.
HIV
HIV can be controlled with treatment. Undetectable means sexually untransmittable. Here is how to choose your next step.

Can I get tested anonymously?
CheckPoint Sofia offers anonymous HIV testing. For specific laboratory services and consultations, ask which personal details are required.
How do I get my results?
Open Results to go to the secure MedSoft system. During your visit, ask the team which login details you need and when to check your particular result. If you cannot access it, email info@checkpointsofia.info.
I am concerned but have no symptoms.
Having no symptoms does not rule out an infection. Open Help me choose a test, or tell the team when the contact happened and which body sites were involved, so you can agree the appropriate samples and timing.
