You do not need an appointment for testing. Book an appointment for a medical consultation. Before you come, check which sample is needed and how to prepare it. If you are unsure which test you need, the team will help you choose.
Where to come
Find us at 111 Tsar Samuil Street, Sofia. We are open Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday: 10:00–12:30 and 13:00–18:00. Some samples have a separate acceptance schedule; check your particular test in the price list.
Conversation and confidentiality
Share your concerns and questions. The centre offers free, anonymous HIV testing. For other services, ask what information is needed and how you will receive the result; not every service is anonymous.
The appropriate test
The sample depends on the test and the exposed body site. Explain when the contact happened, whether you have symptoms and whether you take medication. You do not need to know the medical terminology beforehand.
Blood
Blood tests are used for HIV, syphilis and hepatitis; the particular test determines whether a finger-prick or venous sample is needed.
A specialist collects the sample at CheckPoint.
You do not need to fast for these blood tests. You can eat and drink normally.
Urine
Urine is used for the offered urine culture with an antibiogram, Security package, SuperCheck, UltraCheck and mycoplasma/ureaplasma tests, depending on the selected test.
A first-morning urine sample is required.
Get a sterile urine container from a pharmacy, collect the sample and bring it to CheckPoint. Also check the sample acceptance schedule for your particular test in the price list.
Throat swab
This is a sample of secretions from the throat collected with a swab. It is used for the throat swab test and applicable SuperCheck, UltraCheck and Extra Security packages, depending on exposure and the selected test.
A specialist collects the swab at CheckPoint.
Do not eat before collection. You may drink water and take your regular medication.
Rectal swab
This is a sample of secretions from the rectum collected with a swab. The Extra Security package tests for gonorrhoea, chlamydia and mycoplasma using a throat or rectal sample. The price list also specifies rectal samples for HPV genotyping and p16 where indicated.
You collect the rectal swab yourself on site at CheckPoint, with instructions from the team.
Do not perform intimate hygiene before collecting the sample.
Vaginal swab
This is a sample of vaginal secretions collected with a swab. It is used for applicable chlamydia, mycoplasma/ureaplasma, HPV and vaginal secretion tests, and the SuperCheck and UltraCheck packages. The selected test determines what is tested.
You collect the vaginal swab yourself on site at CheckPoint, with instructions from the team.
Do not perform intimate hygiene before collecting the sample.
What to prepare and how much time to allow
If you have earlier results or questions, prepare them for the conversation. Ask about documents and preparation for your chosen service. Visit length depends on the service and how busy the centre is; there is no single guaranteed duration.
