Do not delay medical assessment
PEP must start as soon as possible and no later than 72 hours after exposure. Do not wait for symptoms or test results. A clinician decides whether it is appropriate.
If the centre is closed
Seek an emergency department or infectious diseases clinic for an immediate PEP assessment. Online booking does not guarantee a timely assessment. Call 112 for a life-threatening emergency.
What happens next?
Exposure → medical assessment → PEP if indicated → follow-up and testing. The usual course is 28 days, prescribed and monitored by a clinician. After 72 hours, still seek care for testing and prevention.
